Ay TelocrrcipS—Pre** AvoolMlflo Auckland, August: 20. In the Supremo Court, John Brown, convicted on four charges of false pretei.ces by issue of valueless cheques, came up for sentence. A communication from the Naval Pay Office-corroborated tho accused's story that he \i\-u in the Naval sorvico out of Xew Zealand and had somo pay to his credit. Accused was sentenced to threo months' hard labour, to be followed by three year.-;' detention tor reformatory purposes.
