Dtinedin, August 19. In oonsequence of heavy rain and parts of the lino between Allan ton and Waihola king: under water, the south train to'lnveroargill was not dispatched 1 this morning. Tlig train from lnvcrc&rgill only goes to Clinton. There is a tremendous body 01 water near Allanton and Henley. • A marked improvement loolc place in the weather all over Otngo to-day, and while ft very serious flood has been experienced oil the Taicri l'lain, it seems that there is little cause for apprehension that there will bo further extensive damage. In the afternoon a breaoh occurred in the bank of tho Taieri River, near Otokia, and the water (lowed on to the plain, but there is a prospect, that tho river will fall. This will probably enablo the breach to iJo repaired. Boad. and railway' traffic southwards of Dunedin and on the Olago Central lino has been suspended to-day, and it is doubtful if the train to Invercargill will run to-morrow, as there is 7 feet of watef on the line at one place to-night. There havo been a number of slips on tho Central Otago linfc, and this train will not bo dispatched to-morrow. Timaru, August 19. Tho rain whioh besan on Sunday ceased this morning. The total fall was 2 inches.
