By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.
Master ton, Augult is. A' meeting of the Waimrapa School Committees' Association was held tonight to discuss suitable sites for tho proposed technical high school in Mastf.Tton. Mr. B. Brown was in the chair, and the various school committees were represented by the following:—Fernndge, Messrs..Hubbard, T. Evans, E. J.Rose: Featherston, Bov. Mr. Catherwood, Messrs. A. C. Holms, J. W. Henderson; Laus(iowne, Mr. D. A. Pickering; Solwav, Mr. A. W. Wilkinson; Kopuaranga, Mr. M'Kenzie. , Mr, W. H. Jackson d.eiculcd to the meeting the visit of Dr. N Anderson to Masterton, and outlined the position in regard to the various sites offered. He thought that in choosing a site for the school they should have in view the future development of the town. Mr. A. C. Holm said that tlie best interests of the district would be served by a high school proper. At the present time the tondency was to send children to Wellington for their education, and ■this should be discouraged.
Mr. Hubbard said that his views were in accordance with those of the previous speakers. Undoubtedly they wanted a lugh sohool • proper, which would best serve the interests of the district. He did not favour the Lincoln Road site, as it was low-lying and in closo proximity to the railway. In his opinion the fishponds site and the Renall Street site were the. most suitable sites of those urder consideration. Ho moved: "That this joint meeting of Wairarapa- school committees .considers the most suitable site for the proposed new.high school to be the Renall Estate properly, lying east of Pownall Street, between Renall and Cornwall Streets, and tho Trust Lands Trust site, and recommends tho Department to negotiato for either of these sites."
The motion was seconded by M,r Caldwell and carried.
Air. il). A. Pickering said that he had been, surprised to learn that the Director of Education had been to Masterton and had been met by a lew citizens, none of whom advanced a plea to have separate institutions. The proper course would have been for the school committees to be represented at the conference. Ho thought the Trust Lands Trust ..silo, near the station, was a far more suitable fiite than tlmt proposed on ih'e Renall Estate.
The chairman oxplaincd (hat there had been uo time to convene <1 meeting of the school committees prior to the visit of Dr. Anderson, but it was practically decided at such a meeting held some timu ago that a. technical high school was the most desirable institution.
Mr. Wilkinson moved and Mr. Henderson seconded: "That this meeting, representative of all the school committees in the Wairarapa, recommends that a high school with vocational courses bo established in Masterton." Tho motion was carried.
It was decided that copies of tho resolutions bo forwarded to all local bodies in the Wairarapa.
A committee comprising the chairmen of the Masterton district school committees and tho chairman of the association was appointed to deal with any correspondence on the matter under discussion.
