THE PRUNING KNIFE
DRASTIC RETRENCHMENT IN BRITAIN.. London, August 17. The newspapers continue to urge the necessity for rigorous retrenchment to save the country from disaster. It is believed that Mr. Lloyd George, in Ins speech in the House of Commons 011 Monday, will inaugurate a vigorous campaign of national economy. His proposals will include the replacement of the Ministerial heads of the great spending departments by men of financial experience, able to carry out drastic reductions. —Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
