FIREMEN AT THEATRES
SOMB NEW REGULATIONS.
The By-laws and Fire Brigade Committee reported to the council last evening .-"That they had received a report from the superintendent of tlio Fire Brigade with reference to firemen on duty at tho various theatres, and had to reooinmend th/it in future tho theatres he charged for the services of the firemen at tho rate of ss. per day, holidays and Sundays included. The Tiro Bri"ade Department to provide uniforms for the men. and the wages to he increased to 30s. per week, wi.h double payments for each performance for holidays and Sundays; payment of the men to lie made by tho council. Tho present, rate of pay was 3s. 4d. por performance. The jiractioe had grown up allowing the theatre management to pay the firemen direct. That for reasons not necessary to mention was considered. unsatisfactory Now tho money had to bo paid, direct to the council. The uniforms were to be provided for the men out of the extra money. The council charged ss. a day, aud tho men—who were former firemen—received 30s. a week.
