5 PROPOSED CHANGES IN THE RULES 87 Teiosrarh—Press AeGociation—OoDyrlE&t (Rec. August 14, 5.5 p.m.) ■ New York, August 13. Mr. Washburn, a, member of the executive of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association, has suggested a number of changes in Davis Cup regulations, which will be submitted to the nations entitled to vote on the matter. The changes provide that the challenge tio shall bo abolished. in 1020, and the location of final lies shall .be: North America, 1920; Europe, 1921; Australia, 1922; North America,. 1923; Europe, 1024. Preliminary ties shall he played in the same country as the final tic, unless the contestants agree to other location. The world's individual championship, men's singles, the doubles, the women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles on grass shall bo held each year immediately preceding the Davis Cup matches, and ou the same continent where the final tio is to bo held, l'or all matches in the world's championship contests in men's singles -and doubles the decision shall rest on tho 'best three of five sets; while women's singles and doubles and mixed matches shell be decided on tho best two of three sets.—Aus.-N.Z. [At the present time the Davis Cup rules permit preliminary .lies to.be play-, ed as agreed on between tho countries drawn to play against one another; but the final tie must bo played in the country represented by tho holders of' the cup.]
