STREET IMPROVEMENTS
TENDERS FOR A CONCRETE TRACK ON HUTT ROAD.
In order to case the curve at the top of Kent Terrace, the City Council acquired tho property on the corner of that thoroughfares and Buckle street: somo time ago. A contract, has now been let for the setting back of tho oornor shop premises some ten feet, which will give the shop premises a third (corner) frontage and a better main entrance than formerly, allowing ample space lor the widening of the road at that. i«int, and the easing of the traiu trucks. During the wa.v period tho council has not ken able lo do any wood-block-in,7 owing to the difficulty of getting supplies, nnd tho price demanded under euch conditions. Now that tho war clouds have rolled away, t'here is a reasouablo prospect of a change for the better, and as soon as the weather settles the work or blocking the macadamised portions ot Buckle Street, Dufferin Street, and Ru"by Street (whe.ro the roadway has been widened bv curtailing the Basin Reserve) will he undertaken. Attention will also bo given/to that portion of Kent Terrace between Pino nnd Buckle Streets, which lms been in a very rough condition for somo years, owin* to shallow blocks having to be used over- the crown of tho big surface water culvert. , , , Tho Mayor stated yesterday that <nders for the concrete track along tlio Hult Road would be called about the end of the present month, and, given a hue spring, considerable progress Should w made witli tho track before tho end ot the year, subieet, of course, to circumstances permitting in respect to tlio so,curing of supplies.
