NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By Glencoe.)

The new owner ; of Master .Moutoa is Mr. Harvey Raypor, in whose colours Blighty used to race. The final payments for the C.J.C. Meeting are satisfactory and quite as good as was expected. .Several of the steeplechasers liave been under a cloud, but all are expected, to see tho post. Waimai is all right again, but Bon Reve is very sore. Master Strowa'n has made a big improvement, but he may want a race. Coalition is ono of the fittest horses there, but he lias a very big weight, and a'like remark fits the case of Vascular. Morecambe looks all to, pieces,' but Lochella has an army of followers, and may dispute favouritism on the dav with anything in.tho race. On Saturday lie went once round over the .steeplechase fences 7 seoonds faster than, anything else has done this reason. lie may lack tho necessary seasoning to run Si miles, but against this ,ho lias a,. very light weight and is a fine jumper. Parisian Diamond and Gazique are'well in the market for.the Winter Cup, as is Kilboync. Tho trio are the'top weights for the race, and the southerners say the lastnamed is 'bock to his .best form of the spring. Battlo Array is not a good track •worker, and All Over was' comfortably defeated by Parisian Diamond on Saturday, but the weights were the same, whereas a difference of lfilb. thould bring them together in tho Cup. Samiel has been working very well, and eo has Gamecock, who generally shows his best form at Riccarton, the . long straight of which courso suits him.

It is reported that S. Reid will, after all, have tho ride on Form Up in the Win tor. Cup. Reid's presence in the saddle will not cause the Wellington horsn to lose any supporters. Omahn and Sir Solo are monopolising the attentions . of backers for the National llurdles. The firstuamcd looks a picture, and hns galloped well at Riccarton. The following is. a list of tho horses and their riders for tho Grand National Steeplechase:—Wainmi (F. Tutchen), Bon Revo (J. Dcerey), Master Strowan (F.' Ellis),- Coalition (H. M'Sweeney), Master Lupin (A, M'Donald), Vascular (F. Gray), Morecambo (F. Flynn), Polthogue (H. Ixirigdn), Lochella (S. Henderson), Merry Lad (J. Roach), Dardanelles (G. Fielding).. The weather conditions were perfect for training work at Riccarton on Saturday morning, says Iho "Sun," and there was a largo crowd of interested spectators to witness tho final gallops.. The inside of the- trial grass wna open for fast work only, and all the gallops recorded were done on it, unless olhorwiso mentioned. The sand and tan were also available. Hiero and Battlo Array , were on terms at the end of six furlongs, run in lmin. 22sec. Lionskin, alone, skipped over five furlongs in lmin. 7 2-ssec, finishing well. St, Curio was given a round of, the big fences, but the exhibition was only fair. Singlo Rcso, who was picked up by Hands Off at the half-mile post, ran five furlougs in lmin. Sscc. Hands Off was easily the better of tho two. . Sonnino and Risingham finished on .terms at tho close of a six-furlong 6priut, the last five being done in lmin. Bsec. Reformation easily accounted for Wild pilgrim over six furlongs, run in lmin. 23see. Art with the assistance of Amaranthus over tho last half-mile, ran a mile and y. quarter in 2min. 18sec., finishing very well. - •Elocution beat Sir Ralph at tho end of Jive furlongs run in lmin. Osec. Sir Ralph took lmin. 8 2-ssec for the journev. Gamecock, who- is looking vory well, was given vary steady work over two rounds of the sand. Sir Solo, alone, ran the Inst seven furlongs of u milo in lmin. dfl 2-ssec., finishing well. Ho is improving with every gallop. Moorabbe ran six furlongs, alone, in lmin. 23 2-ssec. W.inslow had the bettor of Marvelite over the concluding stages of a milo run in lmin. 55sefl. Hardshot. .with Gaylight M a com-

panion, was given il round of ' tho hurdles. Both gave a .very ordinary showing.Rowi Poto, with Hultive for a mate, was given a turn over two fonces, tlip liittor pleasing most. They wero afterwards giyen strong woijk. Potentiality and Form Up wore associated in a dash ovor_seven. furlongs, which they left behind in lmin. 35sec., tho former having slightly the better of the duel at the finish.

Sisyphus .was sprinted up the back, going well. Waimai gave Pollhogne a bad beating over seven furlongs run in lmin. 42sec., the latter being ten lengths away at tho finish.

Samiel and a companion left seven furlongs behind in lmih. 35s'oc., (he iormer gaining many friends by tho resolute Way ho, finished'his task. Sapper and Fabisco were companions over six furlongs run in lmin. 24sec. Both worked well. • Glensliine and Dardanelles wero given a good working gallop. Coalition, with Bore for a mate, were sent over the big country.. Both jumped in fine style. Borodino easily accounted for Gold Rip (who had a very, light boy up) and Sir Agnes over tho concluding stages of six furlongs run in lmin. 23scc. Gold liip was not doing his best. Belair and Pyjaina wero on terms at the close of five furlongs ;-un in lmin. 8 3-sseo. ■ Red Kea, who was ridden by L, Hegarty, while doing steady work, broke a fetloclc and was shot. ■ It is very un- ; fortunate for his connections, as lie looked lilco winning at the meeting. Greckson, with a coriMianion at the start, but who was dropped, covered five furlongs in lmin. lOsec. Kaminoha sprinted four furlongs m 56 2-ssec. . Strayshot left, four furlongs bolnnd in 55 l-ssec. . Parisian Diamond was much too good for All Over over the concluding stages of seven fnr!/ngs, mnjn lmin. 38 3-ssec. Signature, alone, had a good working gallop over seven furlongs, .which was run in lmin. 43 l-ssec. . Post Haste, alone, left five furlongs behind in lmin. 9 2-ssec., finishing : well. Sonny sprinted four furlongs in 56 3-ssec. j Seville and Cyme started for a round of tho hurdles, but tho latter only jumped two. Tho pair afterwards ran six furlongs in lmin. 30?ec. ' Gazique, with a lot the worst of tho weights, beat Rangi Aroha over six furlongs, ran in lmin. 21sec. This was a good gallop,' the former doing it easily. Gang Awa' was better than Master Strowan over a mile, run in lmin. 51 Some Kid sprinted four furlongs in "ka'njfwapango was botter than Merry Lad at tho end of a mile, run in Imm. 55 l-ssec. Traditor and Fairy IJinn wero companions over a round of tho fences. Both gave a fair, showing. Cerberus, when about 150 yards from the winning post, appeared to be frightened by some other horses and jumped from tne grass track on to tho plough. Luckily ho was not injured, nnd pulled .rap quite sound. He was going five furlongs. . ■ Tho Grand and Sandown. were given a turn over the 'big country, negotiating it well. Tip Up, alone, ran six furlongs in Imm. 21sec., finishing very well, Lochella, Morecambe, and Lawsuit wore given a round of tho big fences, and all jumped well. Charley, alone, ran six furlongs in lmin. 21sec., finishing very well. . ICilboyne left the last four of.six furlongs Ixiliind in filsec., but did not finishwell. - . Ilohekah, with Imaribbon to assist her over the early stages, left a mile bohind in lmin. Blsec., doing it very nicely. With the. exception of Gang Awa' and Mltoter, all the horssg engaged in tho Jumpers' Flat Race at Riecarton also figure in the Grand National Ilurdlo Race. Paraoa,. Signature, Master Moutoa, Reformation, and Tigerland are all engaged in'the Trial Hurdle Race to-morrow, and al6o the Grand National Hurdles on Thureday.
