SCENE AT A RUGBY MATCH
FREE FIGHT BREAKS - UP A GAME. By Telegraph.—Spocial Correspondent.. Mastcrton, August 10. Tho senior Rugby match played at Mosterton on Saturday between Dalefield and Red Star terminated in a most disgraceful manjier, the former team as a wholo being ordered off tlio field. Tho whole game was marked by rough plav on the part of Dalefield, as was manifested afterwards by the number of black eyes and facial abrasions suffered bv members of the opposing team. Things did • not improve when tho reforeo remonstrated, but a crisis was reached about twenty minutes before time, when tho scores were:' Dalefield, 9; Red Star, 6. Tlio latter team had scored a try which was disputed by a member of the Dalefield team, who became abusive. On the referee ordering him off the field ho refused to go, but was later removed by several spectators. Thereupon Ilia fellow-players vented their feelings against tlie referee by using langungo which was quito audible to the spectators, and in a few minutes a free fight, was in progress. Tho refeiee suspended the match and walked off tho field. A special meeting of the AVairarapa branch of the Rugby Onion has been called for next Saturday, when tho Dalefield captain, the referee, and tho two lino ijmpires will be asked to givo an account of the occurrence. It is likely that the Red Star learn will win the match by default.
