A prominent member of the House ol Commons, who holds office, interviewed r(\9Mi-dins the Speaker's Devolution Committee, «u'd that imperial, federation is not involved,, though comparisons of the constitutions of Australia, Canada, ami' South Africa will be most useful, and will also accustom iho British electors to the- federal .idea. The committee will" formulate a scheme to relieve tho British Parliament of the pressure of local affairs in Scotland. Ireland, and Wales, and to co-ordinate ami probably increase tho functions which .ire already locally controlled, such as education and , tho judicatures. It is hoped that the scheme, vrhen prepared, will clear tho Irish atmosphere and induce Ireland to come into line. V The sanio official regards the prospects of a conference of the self-governing .dominions, with a view to keeping touch with Imperial affairs, as unlikely before the middle of next year, owing, to the necessity for Mluisfeiß to return to their own countries to attend to local affairs.— Aus.-N.Z.
