NEW ZEALAND CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Club was held yesterday in the secretary's office, Ro.uth's Building. There was a very good attendance; a larger number than for the past two or three years. Mr. W. K. Spencer (president) was in tile chair. The chairman referred to the inability to obtain guests to whom to extend their hospitality, and hoped that during the ensuing year the olub would be able to hold more frequent meetings. He said that thev were very glad to find themselves back in the YtJI.C.A. rooms. (Applause.) Tho financial statement was then discussed. The credit of the club at the bank on April 30 was ,£4B is. id. This, said the chairman, was very satisfactory for a small club like theirs; but he would rather eee a smaller bakntx at the bank and a larger number of meetings held. The annual report, which was published yesterday, was then read. It was hoped that the club would hold two meetings in the near future; one to the Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. P. Massoy) and Si* Joseph Ward (Minister of Finance), and another to Admiral Jellicoe. The election of officers resulted:—President. Mr. W. E. Spencer, M.A., M.Sc. (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. W. M. Pago and R. J. Aekins (re-elected); committee, Messrs. E. S. Baldwin, C. M. Luke. C. It. Smith, A. J. Talbot (all reelected), and L. Berks. Mr. J. 0. Sutton was reappointed secretary, and Mr. D. E. Beaglehole lion, auditor.
The oliairnian said that Mr. E. P. Lambert had taken on the duty of secretary and treasurer when his partner had gone to tho front. He moved that the meeting show its appreciation of his work. Mr. Page supported the chairman's remarks, and a motion of thanks lo Mr. Lambert was carried unanimouslv.
The chairman moved that the annual | subscription should be raised from 7s. lid. to 10s. He said that the subscription would bo easier to collect In this form than in tho odd coinage. He also stated that then the cost of the dinner to the members would still be one shilling. the club paying the extra sixpence. It. was al6o moved that the subscription be raised to 10s„ and the members pay Is. lid. for their dinner at the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Wheeler moved that Ihe subscription should remain at 7s. Gd„ and that ithe members should pay is. Gd. for their dinners. Mr. Spencer'said he was willing to compromise, and after 6ome disciiAsion it wa-s decided that the subscription be raised Jo 10 s., and that it be left to tho discretion of ,the incoming committee as to whether the price of the lunch for the members should be raised.
