Dunedin, Angitst 7. t The embargo. on tho export of liidos fend skins was severely criticised to-day by a business man, who assorted that Nthe effect of tlio Government regulations •was to put immense profits into the pockets of a few at the expense of many. The Government's scheduled list of prices, ho said, had eliminated all competition, the tanhers taking what they ivanted and leaving tho poorer' classes on the agents' hands. Wlien rejects were offered at auction they realised more for export than the taimers paid for the best. He also asserted that bather had recently been exported from New 'Zealand to a market whoro almost famine prices ruled, and complained that while leather was Is. to Is. Id. per lb, higher than at the beginning of the war, tho vendor of hides was getting ljd. to 2Jd. lb. more. .
