DIPHTHERIA STILL IN THE LEAD. Furures for the week ended noon on Mondav last show that in the Wellington public health district there were thirty caces of diphtheria reported, tho cases being spread quitij impartially over.tho whole of the district: There were four cases reported in Wellington out of tho lota'. The return shows thai, no infec-tions-disease is so prevalent at the pre-.-ent time as :■; diphtherial Influenza has not yet been stamped out in the district, and as the last deadly outhieak occurred iii.November (preceded in September and October by a large numher of mild cases), it cannot with any certainty be said that New Zealand is vet "out of. the wood." At present the diseaso is cropping up spasmodically all over the district. I'or the week ended At noon on Monday twenty cases of influenza were reported, of which only in four instances wa:- the pneunomic form developed. Wellington city's official contribution to tnc total was one pneumonic and three mild cases. There are, however, known to be more mild cases occurrin? than are reported through, the •'teener of medical men. Oniv one case of lethargic encephalitis i»'iis reported during the week—at Nelson. Four cases of enteric (two in Wellington), and three cases of scarlet fever lone in Wellington) were also recorded during the week. >
