Mrs. C. J. Elliott, who was recently appointed Health Pntrol for Wellington under the Public Health Department, is a resident of this city. Originally from Ireland, Mrs. Elliott, camo to Now Zealand some sixteen years. ago. She suffered bereavement through the war, losing a eon at the front. Mrs. Elliott has been an active worker in social roform matters, being particularly well known in tho Wnirarapa. and Wellington districts for this kind of work, and has taken up her duties simultaneously with tha patrols in the other centres. The primary object of the appointments is to conserve tho health and general welfaro of young persons of both 6exes. Tho ladies are officers of tho Public Health Denartment, and are under the direction of "the District Health Officer. For special purposes they 'are invested with powers of the, police, these powers to be used where necessary to .make inquiries on any matters calling for accurate information as to houees and their occupants. Tho two patrols in Christchurch have already accomplished Rood work, and the experiment promises to be a complete success.

The Wellington Nursing Division, St. John Ambulance Brigade, hold -their usual meeting in St. John's Schoolroom on Monday evening. Mrs. Moorhouse prosided over a Rood attendance of members. Sister Macahdrew gave an interesting talk on poultice-ninkiug, nnd supplied practical illustrations of how to make and apply eight db.erent kinds of poultices and fomentations, explaining at Iho same time tho various complaints for which it would.be necessary to use them. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Sistor Macandrow at the close of the meeting. ,

The wedding took place in the Anglican Church at Tawahere of Miss Doris Bollard, twin daughter of Mr. It. I'.- Bollard, M.P., to Mr. D. A. Bennett, of Palmerston North. Tho church had been beautifully decorated by ttieu-esidents of Tawahere, and the marriage took place 'beneath a hugo bridal bell ti white flowers. Canon Williams performed tho ceremony. Tho bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory eatiii and 6ilk Maltese lace, with court train lined with palest pink crepe do chine. Her veil of Brussels net wns arranged ill mob cap fashion. Miss Madge Bollard was bridesmaid, and wns in cream embroidered Indian silk, with ceriso hat. Mr. J. Bollard was best man.
When a woman wonders at all about u, man's clothes, she- often wonders why he wears buttons in so anany useless places. Tho buttons on the sleeves and back of a man's morning- coat were at one time used for fastening up the long cuffs and the wide skirte of tho period, and though these had now been abolished the buttons still remain.
Dr. Grace Peckham Murray, who paid a visit to AuckUmd and the south soiuu timo ago, has now returned to Sydney, after visiting tho New Hebrides. Dr. Murray compared the cities of Australia with thoso of America, especially as i-c Sards the commerciaJ interest; the' most noticeable difference being the over, whelming population of people who are not native-born Americans. In Melbourne the American lady felt equally at home, and appreciated tho different atmosphere. The business streets of Melbourne wero to bo compared with those of Chicago, while the residential parts, with tho bright plots of ilower gardens, reminded her ot the beautiful City of Seattle. She is gr&atty disappointed to have to leave Australia with, out fulfilling her original plan, that of seeing the country.
Members of the Wellington College Old Girls' Association nro notified 1 that tho fortnightly meeting of tho Association will be held on Monday, August 11, instead of on Thursday, as originally arranged. It is hoped there will be a. large attendance of membors, ns tho decorations for havo to -bo made.

Red Cross Committeo Meeting, A mooting of tho Wellington Women's Red Cross Committee was held 'in the Mercer Street Depot yesterday morning. Mrs. Luke (president) occupied tho chair. There wero njso present: Mesdamca Jo-. Bepli, Willis, Townsend, Aston. Archibald, Bluiidell, Myers, Elliott, Barltrop, Sea ton, Moorhou&e, Tfipp, Duthic, W. Nathan, I'indlay, and the hon. secretary, Miss Sybil Nathan. An apology was received from Mrs. J. P. Firth.
Mrs. Luko proposed that Mrs. Moorliouso be elected vice-president in tho absence of Mrs.' W. Nathan, who wns leaving very shortly for England. Tho resolution was carried, and Mrs. Nathan was granted leave of absence. Another member of tho committee, Mrs. Herzog, was granted leave of absence till November, and Mrs. C. R. Smith was nppointed to her place. A letter whs read from Mrs. lt-oso asking for partiul leave of absence from tho Hospital Visiting Committee for a time, owing to indisposition. She slated tluit she could visit .\tirumnr Hospital, but could not undertake to visit any other. The secretary was requested to write to Mrs. Hose granting her the lenve she had asked for. nnd expressing tho hope that sho would soon be restored to health. Mrs. Henry wns eppointed to tho Visiting Committee 'luring Jirs. Nathan's absence from Wellington.
Miss Nathan reported havintr received i\ letter from the matron at I'rentliiim, .in which she staled Hint during the time she- had been at Brockenhurst Hospital, in England, all the Eed Cross Roods'sent from Wellington had arrived in excellent order.
