AUSTRALIANS V. SURREY. London, August 1. Tho Australians' first innings closed for 438—Lampard 58. Surrey, in the first innings scored 322—Wilkinson 103, J. N. Crawford (not out) 141. Australia in the sccond innings has lost ono wicket for eight runs. In the second innings the Australians had four wickets down for 280, and declared the innings closed. Collins made 75, Taylor 54, Willis (not out) 55.
Tho orowd protested against tho slow batting and the late declaration.
Surrey, in the sccond innings, lost ono wicket for 84, and tho match was declared drawn. ' (Rec. August 4, 8.15 p.m.) London, August 2. . Surrey's correct score in the second innings was one wicket down for 121 runs—Hob'ljs, unfinished, made GB. Tho Australians "barracked" the slow butting and the sacrificing of a sporting chanco of victory in order to make defeat impossible. A spectator entered tho ring and argued with tho umpires, urging that tho crowds wore impatient of tho uninteresting batting.—Renter.
