AWARDS. FILED. The new'award of the Wellington hairdressers, hairworkers, and wigmakers' assistants which was filed yesterday, provides for a working week'of 50 hours, the hours of work to be fixed by each employer according to the circumstances of his business, but the ( day's work na'st be between 8 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. on four days of the week, between 8 a.ni. aud 1 p.m. on the half-holiday, and between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on the late night, Christmas Eve> and New Year's Eve. Work iu hand is not to extend more than five minutes after, closing time. The minimum wage for* journeymen or jour-' neywomen hairdressers, hairworkers, or wigmakers is fixed at <£3 10s. a week, a journeyman or journeywoman being described as one who has been at the trade for not lesfe than fivo years. Apprentices aro to be paid, for tno first year 10s. a week; second year, 155.; third year, 205.; fourth year, 255.; fifth yoar, 355. The proportion 6f apprentices is fixed at one for every three journeymen, and no employor is to havo more than fivo apprentices, but where an employer has more than tho above proportion at the time of the filing of tho award, no now ones aro to be takon on until the number has been reduced below-the proportion stipulated. The holidays to be observed aro as foil' ."New'.Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter . .ijnday, Labour Dav, Sovereign's Birthd. Day, Boxing Day, Anniversary Day, and tho second Tuesday in February. The award comes into operation on August.lß and is to remain in force for two years. ,

GROCERS' ASSISTANTS' AWARD. Tho amendments to the grocers' assistants and drivers' award, Wellington Industriai District (except Wellington 30 miles radius), provide for the payment of the following minimum wages: To grocors' assistants—from 15 to 16 j'tars jof age, 12s. 6d. per week; 16 to 17 years, 17s. 6d.; 17 to 18 yoars, 255.; 18 to 19 years, 355.; 19 to 20 years, 455.; 20 to 21 years, 525. Gd.; 21 to 22 years, 575. 6d.; over 22 years, 675. 6d. The minimum wage to drivers of 22 years and upwards is fixed at G7s. Gd. per week, while drivers under 22 years of ago are to be paid the tvages prescribed in tho scale given above. In addition to the minimum rates quoted e, bonus of 7-J per cent, is to bo. paid. The' Award governing grocers' assistants and drivers within 30 miles radius of Wellington is similarly amended.

TIMBER WORKERS, ' Amendments to two existing awards wore filed b$- the Court last week. A now wages clause inserted in tiie Wellington (25 miles radius) timber yards and sawmill employees' award is as follows :—Firstolass machinist. Is. per hour; yard labourers, Is. 41d.; casuals. Is. 4-Jd. In addition a bonus of ljd. por hour is to be paid to hourly workers, and of ss. per ■wcok to weekly workers. Any- employer maj arrange with coopcrs to work piecu•\vprk;on a log to be arranged with the workers. Tsho amendments to tlio Wellington engine-drivers' award proyido that whero the work an engine-driver is employed to do requires that he shall hold a firstclass certificate as a stationary enginedrivor, and ho holds such a certificate, the minimum wage is to he 13s. Gd. per day. In tho case of tho holder of a seo-ond-class certificate on second-class work, the wage is 12s. Gd. a day, while for work requiring a traction, or locomotivo certificate for engines moving from placo to place by their own power, the wage rises io 13s. Cd. por day. Firemen and greasers are to bo paid 12s. pei; day, and where any worker is required to get up steam when starting work, or to bank fires when ceasing work, involving work outside ordinary hours, an extra Is. a day is to be paid. Youths employed as firemen aro to be paid as follow:— Eighteen and under 19 years, 9d. per hour; 19 and under 20 years, lid. per hour. Tlieso amendments are also to como into forco on August 18.
