THE PRESIDENT'S TITLE
AMERICAN JOURNALIST'S SKIT.
It will bo observed (says tho "New York "Sun" of May 13) that President "Wilson is still signing executive proclamations in the subjoined conventional form: ''Therefore I, Woodrow Wilson, President of tho United States of .America, do hereby," etc. etc. Is this right? Does it express adequately the functions which tho President of tho United States is exercising, or is endeavouring to exercise, or desires to exercise in his own person? How would this d° ? » . • "Therefore I, Woodrow Wilson, President of tho World league. Akhoond ol Abyssinia, Armenia, Anatolia, Assab, and Assam, Beglerbeg of Beirut, Basra, and Baanfu, Caliph of Constantinople and the Chad, Doge of Dalmntia and Dudoza Island, Emperor Emeritus of Europe's Little Tribal Nations, Friend of the I'aithfnl to the Fourteen, Great Mogul of (jobabis and tho Desert of Gobi, Honorary Ilospodar of Hungary, luca. of Ichang, Ilfov, and Ispahan, Judgissimo of Justice everywhere, King of ICorguellen Laud, Landamman of Lake Lonian, Moderator of Montenegro, Nursissimo of Nursing and Nursable Nations, Overlord of Omsk, Omaruru, and the Oases, Paramount Protector of Paknampo, QuartermasterGeneral of Quilimone, Qni-Nhon, and Quthin<r, Regent of tho Rivor Cess, Sublimo Soldan of the Southern Seas, Tetrarcli of Temesvar, Uplifter of the Uzbaks, Voivodo of Ylashka, Woon of Wangdupotang, and president in.partibus of the united states of auierica." Tlio soal (continues tho "Sun") should bo that of the Wilsonian official composite, and tho attestation, in place oi tho mere name, Robert Lansing, should bo rendered by all of Colonel House s geographical and ethnological stall. It seems plain to lis that the American peoplo have the right to insist 011 this, or on something' like it. They are paying the bills.
