A NEW POSSIBILITY. , A federation of brain workers on trade union lines ivas referred to us a possibility of the nsar future at tlio first conference of the Guild of insurance Officials in London recently,
Mr. l'\ E. Hill (Liverpool) such organisations as the Union of Teachers, the .National Union of Journalists, the Bank Clerks' Union, etc., had already recognised the necessity for combination. It was an indication that the brain workers of ti.o. countiy were now alive to the need of' joint organisation if they were to keep their looting in the economic life of tho country. la courdo of time he hoped that oliiciais in banks, shipping and insurance offices, and kindred organisations would tveld themselves into ono great movement for that object. • The conference, which \fas representative of insurance officials 1 *n all parte Oi the country, passed resolutions in favour of a minimum wage and tins fair treatment of men returning from the lorces. ' In connection with tho suggestion for a federation of brainworkerc, the S.ocifcty of Technical Engineers has already taken steus to form a Brainworkers union, the object being to give scientific men on"aged in great undertakings a \oic in industrial disputes. the Rational Union of Scientific Workers is also wotting 011 the same lines.
