LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

! "PROFITEERING"

Sir,—Tho Rev, J, 6. Chapman can fnirly claim to liave astuteness, amongst his other qualities. Ho introduced a highly controversial topic into his pulpit, a placo sacred only to himself, and thus not permitting a statement of opposing views, and now, on the plea that being a bnsy man, he has no time for a newspaper discussion, wishes to dismiss the subject. If a plain statement of facts introduces "questions of motive, want of logic, personalities, etc.,; which can Inpassed over as' irrelevant," as ho puts it, then it is evident the weak joints in his armour have been pierced, and ho is without adequate defence. It seems a' strange thing that Mr. Chapman should have been made tho repository for so many confidential communications on this subject, as ho states he has received, fortified.'with which ho constitutes himself the eolo judgo and arbiter on the subject. So far from having been "hit," he is as wide of tho mark, as far as I' personally nm concerned, as he is in his logic on "profiteering," and that is miles away. My wish is not to defend "profiteering," or any similar abuse, but when a Christian minister introduces a topic liko this into his pulpit his facts should ibe clear and incontrovertible, and tho sources from which he obtained them above suspicion, and he should be competent to act as an impartial judge'of the matter, and in the humble opinion of one at least of his auditors he has failed to come up to either of these renuiremants. With apologies for further trespassing on your valuable space.—l ani, ttc, ANOTHER METHODIST. August 1,1919. ■■
