A complete answer was given at the annual meetimr of the Mauawatu.Patriotic Society, which was held at Palmerston on Thursday evening to the criticism which has-been' levelled against the. society for not having already made a distribution of its funds amongst the returned soldiers of the district. The matter was broached when a letter was read from. The chairman. Mr. ,1.. A. Nash, M.P., pointed out that practically all the moneys collected and donated were given.for tho sick and wounded fund, and as all'the men had not, yet returned no distribution would bo made until a full list of the men entitled to participate was received. The society was at present in communication with 'the defence authorities and expected shortly to receive, a complete list of casualties' to soldiers from the society's district; Mr. J. M. Johnston emphasised that the money was for sick and wounded men, :uid ho look it lhat fit men would, not particiunlo in the distribution. Ho emphasised that manv 01. tho men who had returned -were sufleniig from sjekness which was of a recurrent nature or from wounds from the, effects of which they would never completely recover.
