AWARDS AMENDED
WAGES AND OVERTIME
The Court of Arbitration yesterday filed its decision upon four applications made V workers in llie metal trades for amended awards. , An order amending thu metal workers assistants' award, which operates within a radius of iO miles from Wellington, was as.follows:— , ,
"The following shall be tho minimum rales of wag*!:—l'urnacemni, work done on ships and marine boiler repair work, machinists not covered by other awards, and structural workers engaged on erection work, Is, aid. per hour; all others, Is. ad. per hour. "In'additiun to the minimum Kites above pre.wribed. there shall bo paid to such workers a bonus of 2Jd. per hour, unless and until the Court shall otherwise order." The following provisions regarding overtime are niiide:-(l) "Overtime shall lie paid for at the rate of time and a half for tlie first three hours, and thereafter double time until the ordinary time for commencing work next morning it worked continuously! (2) any worker who has worked during the day and all night sha.'li'be pniel double ordinary rates for work done on the following day; (3) workers required to commence, work between the hours of fi a.m. and the ordinary, time for commencing work shall be paid at the rate of time and a hill: for such time; (1) for work done on Sundays, New Years Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, labour Bay, Christmas Day, or Boxing Day, double time shall lie paid; (5) in computing rates of overtime payable, tho bonus hereinbefore mentioned shall not be taken into account." BOILERMAKERS. An order amending the Wellington industrial district boilermakers' award is as follows i— "All' boiierinakers shall be paid not less than Iβ. "!{■&. per hour. "In addition to the minimum rate above prescribed, there ohall be paid to eueh. workers a bonus of 2id. per hour, unless and until the Court shall otherwise order. "Boilermakers working with acetone gas any day or part of a day, shall be paid Is. pel , day extra. "No worker shall be required to work more than six hours continuously without fin interval for a meal." Overtime clauses similar to those numbered (1), v (3), (i), and (5) in the state; ment given above of the metnl workers amendment were included in the boilermakers' amendment.
MOTOR MECHANICS. An order aniendiug the Wellington industrial district moior mechanics' award was as follows;— ■ In addition to the minimum wage prescribed in the award there shall be paid to journeymen a bonus of 2-ld. per hour unless and until the Court shall otherwise order. In addition to the rates provided by stfb-elaueo (o) of clause 5 of the award thero shall,-belaid to the workers concerned a bonus of ss. per week unless and until the Court shall otherwise order. Overtime clauses similar to those marked (3) and (5) in the metal workers' case were ordered. Other provisions regarding overtime were: "All time.worked in excess of 8i hours in any one day on five days of the week, or in excess of four and a haft hours on the day of the statutory half-holiday, shall be paid for ut the rate of time and a half for the first three hours, and thereafter double time, providde that no* overtime shall bo payable until •17 hours for the week have been worked in the case of any worker losing.time in any.one week by his own default or on his own account, absence through sickness excepted. Double timo shall 'be paid for all work done on Sundays, Christmas Dny, Good Friday, New Year's Day, Easter Monday, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign. Labour Day, or BoxingDar'" ENGINEERS. An order (unending the Wellington industrial district engineers' award was as follows:— , . "The minimum wage for engineers and other journeymen shall be Is. 7Jd. per hour.- The above wages sliall not apply to stock catalogue work; the minimum wage for workers engaged on stock catalogue work shall be Iβ. 5Jd. per hour, but this rate shall only, apply to workers who have had practical experience in the industry for at least three years. "In addition to the minimum rates prescribed, there shall be paid to the workers mentioned above a bonus of 2Jd. per hour.. ' ... "An apprentice after serving his apprenticeship may be employed as an improver at the rate of uot less than If. 4u. per hour for one year after the expiration of his apprenticeship." • Overtime clauses similar to (1), (3), (i\, and (5), of the metal workers'" case apply to the engineers' case also. Other provisions regarding overtime are: "No worker shall 'be requited to work more than six. hoars continuously without an interval for a meal. Any journeyman worker having worked all day and night continuously, and bcins required to continue working on into the next day shall be paid double time rate for such following day's work. Any journeyman worker having worked all day and who works on during the night, nnd is granted a four hours' break between the ordinary time for ceasing work nt night nnd the ordinary hour for commencing work next morning shall not be entitled to double timo rates during the following dny." All the above orders operate from August 11 next
