The Canterbury Land Board had before it to-day about ISO applications t'oiadvances in respect of housed and farm*, under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, representing a total of ahoul. £120.000. In pursuance of its pemey or protecting discharged soldiers from what it considers execesivn land values, tlie board declined to grout a certain application, after discussing the matter with tile vendor. However, an hour liner the vendor reappeared before the board nnd stated that he was prepared to liike X'3oo less for tho property. At tho reduced figure the hoard considered tho value was a fair one, and reconsidered the application and granted it.
Imports into British India during March increased by J22.897.000, whilst exports decreased by .£2,360,000, as compared with last year.
