A DANGEROUS ROAD

Mr. A, D. M'Leod (of the Featherston County Council) elated at the Local Bodies' Uoads Conference yesterday that the Itimutaka road was absolutely unsafe at the present timo. Some of the bridges were in a deplorable condition, and several charges weru pending against people who had taken loads over them in excess of what they should. Amongst them were three charges against the Defence Department, who had no more right to break the regulations than anyone else. Later in 'tho conference -Mr. M Leod prophesied that one or other of the bridges would give way sooner or later, and the Wairarapa would be cut off from Wellington by road. That was why Wairarapa was being forced to act, and ho had attended the conference- in the belief that it would da something right ' Councillor C. B. Norwod (chairman of tho Milk Committee) has pointed out that Wellington is very vitally concorned in the state of the road over the Rimiilakas, Bβ. owing lo the inadequate railway service, the Wairarapa portion of. the milk for the city has to be brought! in over this road by motor lorry every' Sunday.
