BRITISH NAVY VOTE

STATEMENT BY FIRST LORD.

(Roc. July 29, 7.20 p.m.)

London, July 2-1. Mr. W. H.' Long (First Lord of the Admiralty), in moving tho Navy Vote for sixty millions in the House of Commons, said that the present strength of the Navy was 180,003, compared with 407.000 at the time of the armistice. He stated that out of, 302 warships and 806 auxiliaries being constructed at tho time of the armistice, 81 warships and 110 auxiliaries which were essential to meet (ho ravages of the war, were n/lw being completed. It would have been bad economy to scrap them, owing to the. atli vanced stage of their construction—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
