ARTISTS' EXHIBITION
j Notwithstanding the wintry weather yesterday the exhibition of paintings now being held by the Society of Seven at the Paterson Art Gallery drew many visitors to view tho collection. Several works of a specially individual character I have already been selected by purchasers, j A marked feature of the works shown by members is the certainty and truth with which effects of light and shade, and colour-values have been seized and re. corded. Scorching sunlight and luminous shadow 011 buildings and street, and on swarthy figures clad in flowing burnouse, which'sei-ves foa morning and evening dress in the East, are dealt with in a masterly way in, to take a. typical example, A. P.. Niooll's large canvas, tho "Bazaar, Cairo," one of the most important works in the show, while in the service of Tiis country Mr. Nicoll had the opportunity of seeing and noting Oriental life and colour, and the "Bazaar" is one of his happiest efforts. Mr. Nugent Welch, who also served abroad as a soldier and as Divisional artist, has returned with material which finds expression in severa.l choice works. "Wild Flowers on tho Somme" and "Motor Transport on tho Bapaume-Cambrai Road" arc features of the exhibition. Space does not allow of an extended review of all, but throughout the works of each exhibitor there is nothing but will command attention. The collection will be on view for some time, and admission to view is free to all.
