THE CASE OF PROFESSOR VON ZEDLIIZ
i Sir,—l hear there is a rumour goinff about that the Victoria College Council tire going to reinstate Mr. von Zcdlitz as a professor at that college. I think we should nil protest against this. However qualified he may be for the position he is a German, and as such has no right to hold any public position nor receive any salary in New Zealand. If the Victoria College Council and others feel sorry for the man, let them pay liis passage back to Germany, where his relatives, no doubt, liave fought against us, and where 1 he is said to hold property; but let them pay it out of their own pockets. We want no Germans over our young people, or in any profession, business, or trade, in this country. Perhaps the Victoria College Council feel sorry for the ex-Raiser, and would like to offer him a billet in New Zealand, say as Chancellor of the University. He, no doubt, is a clever man. Or, perhaps, they would like to recall some of the returned German prisoners, who were also clever, and would have no objeotion to a good salary in New Zealand. But, seriously, let ua think of the many brave young students of Victoria College who have given their lives for us in the late war, and of the many sad, broken hearts and desolate homes to whom the name of a German must bring sad and bitter memories. Let us help' to banish everything German from Nevfjfealand, and so in a 6mall way try to comfort _ those sorrowing around us, and also give all positions to_ our own countrymen—not to enemy' subjects, -I am, etc., ANTI-GERMAN.
