BIG FRENCH SHIPPING EFFORT
TO DOUBLE PRE-WAR MERCHANT TONNAGE. Paris, July 25. ■ The Government has ordered 509,000 tons of shipping-, and private firms aro constrilcting . 1.015,000, thus restoring the merchant 'leet to its pre-war footing. The Minister 'if Transport says that Franco must raii-'e her merchant fleet to 5,000,000 tons. H-. will shortly introduce a Bill which will give France a fleet twice as iarg6 as before the war. •The ships will be constructed in' tho national shipyards, and the work will occupy three years.—Aus.-N.Z.
