Mr.-Beeby, Vho'recently resigned from' tlio. New South Wales' Cabinet,. . lias achieved some notoriety as .a muck-re-signed Minister. His first.'resignation'* ■was from tho M'Gowen Ministry during (lie 1910-13 Parliament, when lie terminated his association with tho Labour Party. A year or two ago, he also tendered ; hls resignation us a niemberjif the present National Government, as a protest against certain phases of the wheat elevator contract, but he subsequently withdrew it' On lliat occasion, Mr. David Storey also resigned, but, like Mr. Beeby, later changed his mind. Jfr. Booby -was a member of (lie first Labour Cabinet, under Mr. M'Goweu, in 1910, but resigned after, a couple of years of office, (hiring, which ; he occupied in turn tho portfolios of Education, Lands, and'. Labour and Industry. He left Hie. Cabinet, the Labour Party.'and Parliament at the same time, but reconlested his scat, Blayney, and was returned at. the second ballot by a nnriw majority over Mr. Johnston, the present member for Batliurst.'
At. the 1913 elections, owing to the Blayney electoral-; having been cut out by redistribution. Mr. Beeby contested the Waverley seal as a Progressive, but received comparatively little support. He remained out of Parliament, with ii lucrative practice nt tho Bar, .principally in industrial jnriwlif'Hnn, till the formation of Die National Parly. loH'iird.s the end of 19IG, when he was appointed to the Legislative Council am! given a seat in the. new Cabinet.
