A PRISONER S DEATH
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. An inquest was held by the Coroner, Mr. \\. C. lUddell, S.M., yesterday into the death of a prisoner named Jolva David Speight. Dr. H. F. Buckley, house surgeon, Wellington Hospital, said that deceased was admitted to the Hospital from the Terrace Gaol on July 15, and he was then Buffering from heart disease and kidnej •disease. -He was very ill, and did not improve owing to his very weak physical condition. Di-atli followed on congestion of tho lungs. George Horatio Thomas Crook, gaoler, Terrace Prison, said that the deceased, was admitted to the prisun on March 19 under sentence of six months imprisonment, imposed at Lower Hutt lor being a rogue and a vagabond. He wm a man of 54 years, of age, single, and had no known relatives m JNew /calami. Since he had been admitted to tho prison lift had done light work, and hf.d never complained of being ill until July 15, when he was put to bed and examined by Dr. Gihnoiir,' Th* Coroner returned a verdict in accordanco with the medical evidence.
