This Citadel, situated on tho : ultra-fashionable Riverside Drive, was built for Mr. Sunday by his admirers. It Heats 25,000 people, has a sawdust-on-(■.ii-|h floor, and the people sit on rough benches, as in a circus or stadium^ "There i« no nonsense about Billy Sim<hv " eavs Mr. Batt. "He flings off hia coal, tucks up his sleeves, and sometimes volii un his trousers, in order to pitch info his audience with the greater freedom. And he does go it! He is chock γ-j 11 of the quaintest slang phrases, which tieklo the American ear immensely. Not, of course, the educated public. •Uillv is iiot for them—does not pretend lo he. He goes for -the other fellow— tli!! underworld, the East-siders, and so on and hits them whore they live until niiinv of them 'hit the trail for Heaven!' Biliv is a Salvation Army branded 'made in America , in the one jnan. He has a tremendous following. In New York he Gtioke twice a day for six weeks, Sund&vs included, and never to less than 20,000 people. ' He is snicl noi/ to rave anv money. Tho cash side of the business was being attended to by a committee, and I know the Y.M.C.A. and other bodies interested in war work benefited lai'Rclv by the New York campaign. There was a choir of 5000 voices present the diw I heard Sunday, and they ciMiM sins! When he left New >ork cilv for the middle West, his friends hitched a special truck behind hi* train labelled "A present for Billy Sunday! It was a gorgeous limousine car, purchased and presented to Sunday m tins unique way. by Rockefeller, Wamunaker, nnd a t'cw of his friends in the millionaire class. I tell you, Billy Sunday is a iwwer in America!"
