NEW ZEALAND MEAT IN ENGLAND
Sir,—Mr. Poison':; proposal Hint New Zealand nient bought under the Government commandeer should he sold to the British public on its own, instead of being pooled with other imported .rueat, its appears to be now due under ilu system, of food control, is one which should meet with general .support, provided it can be done fairly as regards the British consumer, and that everyone would have the chance of buying cheap New Zealand meat. If this can be assured (though so much must depend on. local problems of transport and distribution), by periodic issues from cool stor-' a?e, of New Zealand meat only, then our Government should be urged to further Hie business with dispatch, and in addition, to concentrate on securins shipping to relieve the serious position disclosed by Mr. Poison's figures. But if it is true that the American Meat Trust has any controlling influence on refrigerated shipping, one cannot hope or expect that it will use that influence to put cheap New Zealand meat' on the English market.—l am, etc., E.D.F.
