At the Development Leagues' conference the following motions \yero passed:— Urging the 'Government to appoint a commission to consider land tenures in the South Island. Asking that sufficient land should he purchased in the South Island for soldiers and others to obviate the necessity for seeking tenures in the North Island. That local experts should bo associated witli land boards in the purchase and cutting up of land for soldiers' settlements. Urging the encouragement of tourist traffic. Urging the establishment'of experimental farms in tie South Island, with the view to proving the suitability of lucerne as fodder. That inquiries regarding aorial.' postal services be made. The further utilisa■tion of the High Commissioner's Office for commercial purposes. That: the Government should encourage immigration. Urging more elastic mcaps of financing soldiers. That steamers should leave Dunedin for Wellington, , calling at Oaninru, Timarn, and Lyttelton. That the Government 'should guarantee insulated space for the shipment of meat. That a properly-eauipped sanatorium for the South Island Tie erected.; Urging a progressive, policy for the opening up of the country. Asking for a new portfolio of commerce. Urging the speedy completion of the Otira Tunnel, and that the Government should subsidise development leages.
