It is stated by an Auckland writer that Thraca and'Hiiunmnru v-ill not bo sent south to. the National Meeting. C. Emerson has been engaged to ride the locally-owned Battle. Array in the Winter Cup. The racing statistics. for the season about to close havo been published.' Mr. G. c D. Greenwood heads the list of winning owners with .£10,155, and the local owners, Messrs, Riddiford, came fourth on the list with JG593!)'. An unusual feature, of .the list i 9 the high place occupied by the Douglas Estate, with .€2530 opposite the name. As is well.known, it is not often that a deceased estate continues to race, and still more rarely does one pay to way, but this is the record, of the Douglas Estate so far. . ■ Gloaming,' with XG765, was the biggest winner of the season, while Sasanof, with ,£4BBO, was next on the list; Amongst tho sires Martian was out by himself, his stock's winnings amounting to .£22,957; Demosthenes with ,£16,183, and Kifbroney with £U,£lo, were the .next on the list. The Wnikanac sires Bezonian (XGB3S) and Bonifomi (_£5159) were well up on the list.
Several reasons combined to cauao Messrs. Stead and liiohuicmd to cancel their proposed trip to Australia with their horses. The last-iuuned could not get away on any account ciing to a rush of' business at that period of the year, aaid tho former,'who intended taking his wife and family over for several months''change, particularly in tho win-, ter, would not inako the journey owing to the provalencfa of the "i.lu" epidemic. There would be plenty of time later on to got the horses over wore it so desired, but for tho reasons mentioned above the trip has beon definitely abandoned. The Steeplechasers'' Flat Race, won by Gtodful.-at the V.R.C. National Meeting, was run over a two miles course, and was worth A'2oo to the' winner. So far this is the only race 'the well-bred gelding has boo/n'successful in-since'being taken to Australia. .Wellington' owners figure prominently on tho winning owners' list for the season just endod. The Messrs. Riddiford won 1-5939.- Mr. H. W. Brown won .£2813. Mr. P. Soaines ,£2685, ,Mr. H. Whitney .£2519', and Mr. W. E. Herbert .£2160. The two-year-old full-sistar to Lady Ball that was to ' have accompanied Sasanof and Co. to Sydney, will race as Lady Delight. - Owing to the inability of ihe Wellington Raoing Club's Judicial- Committee to obtain some' necessary iiapors,' tho Canzonet inquiry has been further adjourned. The alterations made at the Hacing Conference, in the rule extending the Hack conditions has enabled the Canterbury Jockey' Club to make changes in several,of • the minor events at its Grand .National Meeting. The races affected are tho Trial' Hurdles, Hunters' Hurdles, Enfield Steeplechase, AvonheaiJHandicap, Woolston Handicap, Hunt (Sub Cup,- Suniner Handicap, Spre'ydon Hurdles, Aylesbury Steeplechase, Styx. Hurdles, and Kc'dc'tifFs Handicap. As originally advertised; these <<ve.uts were for horses that had not won a race in that particular'class of tho value of 450 sovs, or races of' the collective'value-of'4oo eovs.. Now they are open to'horses that have not won.a race of the ■value'of 250 sovs. or races of Ilia collective' value of 500 sovs. "F.,Cress, who rode with some success both on the flat and over iAirdles- prior to serving his country for more than three years, returned' to Now Zealand a 'few weeks' back,"and has'tuken up his residence in Hastings.
