JAPANESE TRADE
EFFECT ON THE METAL MARKETS ; ■ MUNITIONS FOR KOLCHAK By Telesraph—Press Association—OoDvrieht London, July 9. Mr. Keith .Murdoch writes:—"The strong movement in the metal markets is primarily due to Japanese buying. Tt is not believed that largo quantities of lead and copper are yet required in Japan for industrial purposes, and the main purchases ale materials required for munitions of war. It is believed that the chief quantities are designed for Admiral Kolchak, with whom Japan has a. substantial agreement. The newspapers are drawing attention to Japan's readiness to invade the world's markets with fancy goods, cheap crockery, flimsy motalwarc. and other lines. The 'Times.' discussing' Japan's attitude to' China, regrets the Chinese Government's aloofness from - the Pence Treaty. It interprets China's temper as due. to apprehension and fear of the looseness of the powers given to Japan, which will leave China at the mercy of Japan."— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
