INFECTIOUS DISEASES
4 POSITION IN WELLINGTON. Figures collected by the Health D&> partment in the Wellington health district show that the infectious disease most provialenC at the present time is diphtheria, thirty cases of diphtheria were reported in the district during the week ended J «'y three cases neing in the city of Wellington. The total for the preceding week was 30, with 6ix cases in tho city. During the week, July 7-IJ, thirteen cases of influenza wero. reported in tho district. Of these 11 cases were mild and 2 wero pneumonic, ono in the citv and one at Waitara. Wellington city 'had 5 cases altogether, -k mild and 1 pneumonic, as against 1 mild case in the preceding week. The total number of cilses of influenza for the district in the week, Juno 30-July 7, was 19, including 3 pnuenionic, 2» at Eltlmm und 1 at Dannovirke. The following table shows the number of cases of infectious, diseaso in the district last week, and the week before last, the figures for Wellington City being given in parentheses:— Last Preceding week. week. This disease is still obscure, but the figures do not indicate that it is spreading with any rapidity. The health officers and medical men generally aro watching it closely.
