The private hotel and , boardinghouse workers in-the country districts, of WeU. lington province recently: came to an agreement with their employers. On tlie application of Mr. E. Kennedy, the agreement was yesterday, made into an award, which will operate from August 1. The fixing of a date for consideration of' the country restaurant , workers' agreement iviis postponed for a few days. ; The representative. of. the Wellington I'lasterors* Union, in asking the Court to set down a date for the hearing of an application to amend the award, referred to the decision-recently given in the Auckland plasterers' case. , He urged that , the Court/should grant the Wellington workers-more than it.had granted the- Auckland workers,. because the cost of living was higher in Wellington than in the northern city. - He thought that the Wellington plasterers' request for 2s. per hour was a moderate ons.. His Honour said that the Court had already held that it could not differentiate like that between one place, and -another. The Wellington plasterers would •have to accept the flat rate of Is. 9d. with a war bonus of 2kl. Mr. Grenfelb (representing the. employers) agreed to a request for a ten per cent, ■increase in the wages of apprentices.
