NURSES' SALARIES
Sir-Regarding an article published.lCially, on Friday, July 4, 1919, re deputation to Hon. U. W. Kiissell, there seems to be some misunderstanding as to actual .salaries received by nurses while training in a public hospital. A statement, was made that third year, nurse*, received a sa'.ary of M to .£IOO per annum, and that the amount received was insufficient. I would like now to state my own case. During my third year of training I received £2 18s.- id. per month, and when fully qualified as. a general nurse (fourth year), my salary increased to JBS Bs. id. Then, upou enterin<r upon a course of post-graduato trainn° my salary was reduced to £1 per month. So you will see that tho abovestatement does not agree with, actua. salaries received. Another case in point js of a nurse fuily trained, qualifying in 1911, now having charge of a public institution of 18 beds. After Ave ywrs service in that hospital she only receives the salary of .£l2O per annum Hoping this may help to enlighten the general public, as they are very kindly interesting themselves in the .future welware of tho nursing profession.-], am, etc., N.Z.R.N.
