Word has been received t,hat two wellknown Petone residents are returning to ivew Zealand in the transport Briton, due in Wellington on July 27. These are 'Chief Motor Mechanics W. E. W. Morris and C. E. Piper, 6f the Motor Patrol. Jioth left New Zealand with the lirst draft. There were largo congregations at both services at St. D.ivid's Presbyterian Church at Petone yesterday to hear Chaplain M'Keiizie, who has just recently returned nom-the front. The total amount collected in Petone for the Y.W.C.A. new building extension fund was .£7O 7s. 6d. Mr. Shardlow has been elected chairman of tho West School Committee in place of tho Into Mr. J. G. Castle. At the recent meeting of the Petone War Memorial Committee, it was decided that circulars be sent out asking for donations to the War Memorial Fund. The scheme is being launched to-day, and every house will receive a circular, and canvassers will wait on householders. It is hoped that a largo amount will be raised by this meauß._ Nothing is being loft undone to make the Pence celobratioos in Petone worthy of the occasion. Or. Saturday morning there is lo be a big procession, comprising two 'bands, Mayor and councillors, Fire Brigade, friendly societies. Boy Scout.'!, etc. At 11.30 tho same morning a patriotic meeting is to be held on Iho Recreation Ground. There is to be. miother, procession and fireworks display in the evening. On Sunday afternoon thero will bo a'children's procession, and ii, the evening a service in (he Grand Theatre. On Monday morning there will be patriotic meetings in tho Grand and Empire Theatres, and picture entertainments in the afternoon. Thero will bo illuminations in the streets and musical programmes will be rendered &y bands and various choirs.
