JUMP OFF A MOVING TRAIN TO GO TO THE RACES "I don't like you chaps risking your lives to go to a race meeting," said Mr. F. V. Frazpr, S.SL, in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, when Andrew Sturgeon and William Lovo Drinnan were charged with jumping off the WeilingtonMasterton train at Upper Hutt whilst the train was in motion. ."If you won't consider yourselves, consider the feelings of the passengers, who certainly don't want to see anyone cut up by a train," continued His, Worship. Both accused pleaded guilty to the chargo and admitted that they jumped off the train in order to go to the races. Each was fined 10s. and ordered to pay 2s. costs. THE. WRONG BAG. On a charge of theft of a brief bag valued at 10s. and a cheque for.jJl. the property of Charles Vaughan, John Fleming M'€allum was remanded till Wednesday. The defendant was also charged >> with insobriety. ' Defendant stated (that he did not steal the bag. but took it in mistake for his own. Ho was a member of the crew of the steamer Jlanaroa, and carao ashore . on Friday to have a key made for his bag. He later took some drink, and put his bag, which contained his l"><i!r-'-f»~'' and all his papers concerning his forty years' record at f«a, down nt some spot 'he could not remember. He saw the other bag, and, thinking it was his, took it away. His Worship said that no doubt defendant's . story was correct, but the police were unable to go on with the cose'. The police would give liim every assistance to discover his own bag. The defendant would be released on 'hail of £25. One first offender for drunkenness was fined 10s. ,
