LONDON WEST-END TRAGEDY
$—■ SENSATIONAL DEATH. OF SOCIETY BEAUTY. (Rec. July 10, S p.m.) London, July 0. A sensational West End tragedy is reported. Mrs. Atherton, a society beauty, who was divorced in 1906, was found dead in bed, in her bedroom, with part of her head blown away. A sporting gun was. lying on tho floor and the door was barricaded. Tho deceased had recently been married to Captain Eliot, grandson of Earl St. Germans, and had separated, the estrangement causing depression. She apparenclyvplaced tho butt of tho gun on the floor and pressed tho trigger with her foot. Letters were found indicating her intention to commit suicide,.. Her maid heard the deceased enter the flat. Then followed the report of tho gun. The maid called a doctor, who found Mrs. Atherton dead, wearing an evening dress and pearl necklace^ Her husband collaborated with Captain Bairnsfather in writing tho play, "The Better J ole."—Aus.-N.Z.
