TUBERCULAR SOLDIERS

■ 4 _ A PENSION DIFFICULTI". In many ways the tubercular cases among th.e returned soldiers ar« proving most difficult to deal with from tho point ot view of the administration. It has happened quite often that men have .taken their discharge from tho forces apparently fit and well, and have come hack to" the pension authorities some considerable time afterwards suffering from consumption. Tho Pensions Board is charged by Statute to give pensions only in case the disability or illness is due to war service, and it is not possible for the board ever to say that tuberculosis in such cases is due to war service. Consequently the board hns held that it r.iay not award pensions in such cases. Obviously something must be,done for Mie men, 'for there is at least a strong presumption that their wot service predisposed them to tubercular infection, and the Defence Minister and tho Department is considering how best it can givo help to such men..'
