ATHLETIC AND CYCLING UNION
A meetina: of delegates of tho New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held in the Employers' Federation room on Wednesday. A circular convening the conference had suggested that the time had eome for tho union to revive its activities on a. pre-war basis. Miv J. Kennedy (chairman) presided, and tho_ delegates present were Messrs, J. M'lvcnzio and W. Gillespie (Masterton); J. Curric (Blenheim), A. \\\ U. Mint (Poverty Par), O. E. Davev.(Gisbornc), W. G. Cailcnder (Wellington), U. H. Eraser, secretary (Tiniaru). The secretary read letters from various centres approving of Hie movement to revive sports. The chairman said that the outlook was good. Much interest was being displayed, and now that the bays were back from the front an excellent start could be made. The funds in hand wo.ro reported to amount to £11 3s. Gd. A proposal to wipe out all outstanding lire-war accounts and give the entries a fresh start was discussed. Mr. Uavey objected, on the ground that the union had sued Auckland for dues about 191-1, and had recovered tho money. It would not bo fair to release other centres. The chairman said that as a matter of fact most of the centres, after several years of inactivity, were not holding tho money. Tho motion to wipe out tho old debts was carried. Mr. Gillespie reported that the prospects in the, Wairarapa were excellent, and the sports next year were expected to be very successful. Tho centre was fully alive. Other delegates reported that activity was being shown in their districts. In the course of some general discussion it was decided that the incoming executive should be recommended lo promote nlhlctics among the schoolboys. Delegates considered that a special effort should be made to get the boys Interested in athletic sports. An Ol.ago remit proposing to remove disqualifications from returned soldiers was adopted. Tho meetiiiff dealt with several other matters.
