KARORI AFFAIRS
1 MEETING OF TEC COUNCIL. The Knrori Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. B. Ci. H. Burn) presiding. Councillors 1\ T . llarri c ou, T. .A. Miirit. J. W. Henderson, T,. G. Porter, I l '. F. Laui-enson, J. Burns. J,.. C. Pulton, and K. li. 'J'ingey wore also present. A communication was received from the secretary of the Karon Brunch of the Women , !* National Keserve, thanking the council for the use of the ehiimI)p]'i3 during tho past four years for meetings, etc. Councillor J. Caughley, at uresent visiting, .Auckland, was granted ten days' lenvo of absence. The Borough Engineer's report, which was adopted, referred to recommendations made- by a quarry inspector as to Hie necessity of benching .the Karori Quarry, but the engineer stated that such v. would ha imjjraclicnble. Tho top face of (lie quarry was composed of loose earth, und if beaching were introduced it would tend to increase the fall of onrHi brought ufco'it by ruin, and also the danger to tli« workmen. The engineer also reported that, a number of buildin«a were in course of erection in (he borough, bill tho coal crisis had interfered somewhat with the supply of the materials. Tho Mayor «nd Councillor ITenderson were appointed n clpiiu till ion to wjiil on tho Mayor of W«Hi ns ton with regard to flic i/iipstioii of ijiiijimnm fare cars to Karori. The Mayor announced that the City Council had agreed to run tbe-i.M p.m. car from Coiirlcnay Place to Hie Council Chambers, instead of as in the past to the, cemetery.
