GOVERNMENT AND NATIONALISATION. (R«Cj July 3, 8.15 p.m.) \ London, July 2. • During tho debate on ike Transport Bill in the House of Commons, when pressed by a Unionist threat that many members would dissociate themselves from the Government if the latter adopted tho principle of nationalisation before appealing to the country, Mr. Shortt (Home Secretary) assured the House that nothing would be done under the Bill to make nationalisation inevitable. He was unable to give a pledge whether or not an improvement in transport might or might not affect Hie 'uestion of nationalisation, but he declared that the Government would not knowinglv or willingly do anything under the Bill to advance the question if it arose. Sir Auckland Geddea was equally emphatic that the question vas as open today as ever.—Aus.-iM.Z. Cable Assn.
