A WHISKY PLANT

A woman who was found by the police near a whisky "plnnt" with an electric torch in her hand was brought before Mr. Burton, S.M., and chared with keeping liquor for sale. Two police constables and Sergeant Miller stated that the "plant" was located under the Public Hall, opposite tho defendant's bedroom window, and was found by them before the woman appeared. They set a watch and saw her go down itlono, etoop at the "plant," and put her hand under the hall. The policeman threw an electric light on to her and blew his whistle. The defendant said the whisky was not hers; it had been put there by someone else. The "plant" was at the same place as the one found last year, when a man was convicted and fined .tifl. Mr. Moody, for the defandant, conteided that defendant heard a noise and «amo out to see what was happening. The "plant" could have been made by Maoris. The case was dismissed. .
