LEAGUE FOOTBALL
At the weekly meeting of the Wellington Rugby Football League correspondence was received from' the Canterbury League agreeing to play a match in Wellington at. an early date. The Auckland Centre wrote offering to play Wellington in Wellington later in the season, and also asking to fix a date for the match, Wellington v. Auckland, at Auckland for the Northern Union Cup. It was decided to suggest to Auckland that the match take .place as. soon after the return of the New Zealand touring team as possible. . The New Zealand Council forwarded detailg.nf.an insurance scheme for players, and it. was decided to leavo the matter over until next meeting, in order to find out the number of players who were likely to take advantage of the scheme. The council also intimated- that they wero unable to say definitely when the New South "Wales team would play in Wellington. Keen disappointment and indignation were expressCJl by members of tho league atihe action of tho City Council in' refusing the ..league the use of the Basin Reserve for. representative matches. Adverse comments were passed on tho members of the council who voted against the recommendation of the Reserves Committee solely on the statements of Councillor Luckie regarding professionalism. Tho secretary was instructed to write to the leading papers denying that professionalism existed in the league ranks.
