Mr. Clutha Mackenzie, son, of Sir Thomas Mackenzie, High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, who came out to Australia as t:ie gn*st of Lord Jellicoe on H.M.S. New Zealand, arrived here yesterday by the steamer Armagh, which brought a load of coal from Newcastle. Captain Leonard Leary, of Auckland, who was a member of the Samoan Expedition, and wrote a breezy sketch of the annexation, returned from England bv the Prinzessin on Monday. Captain Lean- served in one of the Imperial regiments of artillery, and was latterly stationed at the Artillery Instruction School at Exeter, where New Zealand's artillerymen were trained for commissioned rank.

Messrs. A. E. Mabin, G. Shirtcliffe, W. J. Birch, and J. F. Studholme have been appointed trustees of the Wellington Diocesan Boys' School, Day's Bay.

Mr. E. F. Warren, who is retiring from the position of local Deputy-Public Trustee at Auckland, after serving with the Department for thirty-seven years and being in control of tho Auckland district for twenty-five years, was given a farewell "social" by members of tko Auckland staff on Saturday evening. Mr. Warren was the recipient of an illuminated address, while Mrs. Warren was presented with a silver coffee-pot. Mr. and Mrs. Warren thanked tho u.aff for the sifts received.

Bennett (Superintendent), who has been promoted to 'Wellington, and to Mr. A. 0. Keating (Supervisor), who has been promoted to Timaru. The funeral of the late Mr. James M'Kcrrow, formerly Surveyor-General, took place yesterday morning. _ A service was conducted at the family residence in Ghuznee Street by the Rev. Jariies Paterson, and the Eev. Dr. Gibl) officiated at. the graveside. Messrs, Thomas M'Kcrrow, of Dunedin (brother), and Mr. J. D. Kitchic, of Wellington, and Mr. D. R. Caldwell, of (sons-in-law) were the chief mourners, and some of tho elders of St. John's Church acted as pall-bearers. Amongst others who attended the funeral were:— Messrs. T. Humphries and J. Plight-Lieutenant Rex Parsons, son of Mr. Freeborn Parsons, Benmore, Marlborough, was a passenger by the Prinzessin, which arrived at Wellington on Monday.
