The Hon. D. H. Guthrie returns from his visit to the Marlborough, Nelson, and West Coast districts this morning.

Captain M'Lcod, who is S3 rears of age, and holds an extra masters certificate, sewed his time on sailing vessels until ho got his first mato'e certificate, when ho transferred to the steam service, serving with the BritishIndia. the China' Steam Navigation, A.U.S.N., and Uie Bums, Pliilp Company. Ho obtained his master's certificate in 1011. The vessels he served on (luring that timo wero the Moresby, Tambo, Indium, Germania, and the auxiliary schooner Polcnia. In July, 11)15, Jio resigned from the sorvico of Burns, Pliilp, and Co. to join up with the Koval Naval Reserve, serving on .11.M.5. Ba'nalong, Q 111, H.M.S. llealher, ami (he escorting destroyer P.C. .AS (which ho commanded). For his work oil ]|i (one of the •'mystery" ships) he was awarded the D.B.C. Captain Jl'Leod was demobilised in February of this yi-ar.

Lieutenant Horace Lloyd, R.A.F., eldest son of Mr. W. 11. Lloyd, jeweller, is due to arrive in Wellington in a fortnight's, time, after three years' u'ctive service. Lieutenant Lloyd sailed with the Australian Forces as a n.c.0., and subsequently took his commission-in the Flying Corps,- and saw considerable service in France.

The death is announced of Mr. John Coogan, of Patea, at the age of 79 years. 'J'he late Mr. Coogan was born in Ireland, and after spending some years in Melbourne, lie came to New Zealand in 1870, being apointed master tailor to the A.C. Forces. Ho was one of tho organisers of the Wellington Guards, being elected to tho position of lieutenant in ISSIi. Mr. Coogaii was. for some _ time president of the New Zealand Liberal, and Labour League, nml was made a Justice of the Peace in 1906. One of his sous is Sir. E. H. Coogan, of Wellington.
