CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET
By Teloirapli— Asunciatlon. Christchurch, July 1. The effect of tho curtailment of the railway service upon the grain and produce trade remains to be seen. At present there is no large Quantity' being carried, and it is mainly chaff and potatoes. At the present time there is little business being done between farmers and merchants in tho way of selling and buying grain and produce. Tho oats market is quiet and the tone is a little easier owing to tho rather lower quotations being submitted by southern merchants. The clearing uj> of tho weather has also eased the positidn a little, especially in regard to odtslienf chaff. Supplies, are again offering at JX per ton at country stations, but there is little outside demand. It is reported that there are largo stocks of locally-grown ca.tsheaf in 'tho North, Island still to bo drawn upon if required, and Marlborough still has a .considerable quantity on hand, therefore there, is not thoMemand for southern Chaff that is usual at this time of.the year. The potato market is qiiiet still, and prices are without change, being ,£G per ton on trucks. There fire few offering, and the demand is nt present limited.
