AMENDED RUGBY RULES

- REQUEST FROM AUCKLAND , REFUSED. The mutter of amended rules was again mentioned «t last night's meriting of tlio Management Committee of the Ivew Zealand Rugby Union, following upon a communication received from the Auckland Rugby Union. The latter union asked that,. owing' to the season's competitions being so far advanced, permission be given to finish the cup competitions under tlio amended rules tlio local union had been playing. In making the application the union pointed out that as its oup competitions had commenced and were well under way previous to the annual meeting of the New .Zealand Union, much confusion and dislocation must'necessai'ilv ensue following a. reversion to the old rules at this juncture. '.Further, every sub-union in the Auckland province, after having tried the nmended rules, adopted by the Auckland Union, unanimously decided to adopt them, and were playing tliem. The application was made as* much in the interest of the sub-unions as in that of the. Auckland Union, but there was no desire to associate it with representatives matches. "So popular have the rules under which wo have been playing become with both plovers and public." stated the secretary of the Auckland Union in his . letter, "and taking into consideration tho very stiff opposition which we have to combat at evory turn, my committee fool justified ill the interest of the game in Auckland in. asking this concession by I your committee."
